ABB to acquire Canadian innovator Real Tech, boosting real-time water monitoring and environmental technology

On January 8, 2024, ABB announced its agreement to acquire Canadian firm Real Tech, a pioneer in optical sensor technology for real-time water monitoring. The transaction, expected to close in Q1 2024, did not disclose financial terms. Real Tech's innovative portfolio, including optical sensors, controllers, and AI-driven data analytics, complements ABB's existing water segment offerings, enabling advanced water quality management. Real Tech, based in Whitby, Ontario, has 40 employees and provides solutions that span the digital water value chain, enhancing process control and quality assurance. The acquisition aligns with ABB Measurement & Analytics' strategy to integrate advanced environmental technologies, leveraging ABB’s global sales and service network for wider market access. The legal advisors for ABB were Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP, while Real Tech was advised by Gowling WLG (Canada).
