On May 9, 2024, BURNCO Rock Products Ltd. ("BURNCO") announced it entered into a Share Purchase Agreement with Brookfield Business Partners to acquire Hammerstone Infrastructure Materials Ltd. ("Hammerstone"). This acquisition aligned with BURNCO's growth strategy, enhancing its business in Alberta with a significant limestone production operation. The Hammerstone Quarry, located north of Fort McMurray, is one of Western Canada’s largest limestone quarries with over 750 million tonnes of aggregate reserves. The quarry’s output is crucial for the sustainability of its customers, employing 110 people.

Tom Zais, CEO of BURNCO, highlighted the acquisition as a strategic fit that expands BURNCO’s geographic and operational footprint in Alberta. The Hammerstone team’s focus on safety, environmental stewardship, and community engagement aligns with BURNCO’s values. The acquisition will also support Canada's energy industry and strengthen relationships with customers and Indigenous communities in Fort McMurray.

Scott Burns, Executive Chairman of BURNCO, expressed excitement about investing in Canada. The acquisition, pending approvals under the Competition Act of Canada, is expected to close in the next 30 days.
