Lafarge Canada acquires Mathers’ St-Eustache quarry and asphalt operations

On June 30, 2022, Lafarge Canada announced the acquisition of the Mathers’ St-Eustache Quarry (Carrière St-Eustache Ltée) and Asphalt (Pavage St-Eustache Ltée) operations in Quebec. This strategic investment aimed to enhance Lafarge Aggregates' network and solidify its position as a leading provider of sustainable building solutions in the Montreal (East and South Shore) and Lower Laurentians regions. The transaction aligned with Lafarge's Strategy 2025, focusing on expanding its Aggregates business through targeted acquisitions in high-growth markets.

David Redfern, President & CEO of Lafarge Canada (East), highlighted that this acquisition was the largest aggregates purchase in Eastern Canada for Lafarge in over a decade. He emphasized the opportunity to integrate a well-established business with a history of responsible operations. Toufic Tabbara, Region Head, Holcim North America, noted that the addition of the largest crushed stone quarry in Quebec bolstered their position in the circular economy with recycled concrete and asphalt production. Brigitte Mathers, President of Mathers Group, expressed pride in the growth of their family business and optimism about its future under Lafarge Canada.

The acquisition brought over 80 employees into Lafarge’s structure, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable growth and environmental stewardship. Legal advisors for the transaction included McCarthy Tétrault for Lafarge Canada and Fasken for Mathers Group.
