Nutrinor-Gilbert Renewable Energies, a joint venture established just eight months ago in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, has acquired Valeco Énergie Québec from the German group Energie Baden-Württemberg (EnBW). This acquisition includes the Dune-du-Nord wind farm in the Magdalen Islands and a range of projects in different stages of development. Operational since 2020, the Dune-du-Nord Wind Farm features two wind turbines with a total capacity of eight megawatts (MW), supplying electricity to the Magdalen Islands through Hydro-Québec.
In addition to taking over existing operations, Nutrinor-Gilbert Renewable Energies plans to expand this wind farm by adding 16.8 MW, supported by a new contract with Hydro-Québec. The joint venture also benefits from the collaboration with the Eastern Energy Alliance, which includes sixteen regional county municipalities and the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation, encompassing over 209 communities and actively engaging in energy project development and management.
Michael Norman, Chairman of the Board of Directors, emphasized the acquisition's role in integrating the joint venture swiftly into the renewable energy sector, highlighting its contribution to sustainable development. Jacques Gauthier, President, noted the acquisition sets the stage for sustained growth amid increasing decarbonization efforts.
The transaction details, including the acquisition value and legal advisors, were not specified in the announcement.
