- Parties: The plaintiffs were Rosya Roshini Lata and Joy Domingo. The defendants were Ted Walter Pierson, South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority, also known as Translink, also known as Coast Mountain Bus Company Ltd., Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, and John Doe and/or Jane Doe. The third parties were Joseph Donald Foster and the City of Vancouver.

- Subject Matter: Two actions arose from a May 14, 2018 abrupt braking incident involving an articulated transit bus. South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority owned the bus. The driver operating the bus was driving in his capacity as an employee of Coast Mountain Bus Co. Ltd. The plaintiffs were bus passengers during the incident. The bus driver braked in response to the movement of an unidentified white sedan. This matter focused on liability.

- Ruling: The court ruled in the plaintiffs’ favour. The court held that the plaintiffs met the requirement of s. 24 of B.C.’s Insurance (Vehicle) Act, 1996. The court dismissed the claims of contributorily negligence on the part of the plaintiffs, given that this was not pursued in closing argument. The court found the sedan driver and bus driver both negligent in the incident. The court apportioned their liability for the incident as 70 percent to the sedan defendants and 30 percent to the bus defendants.

- Date: The court released its decision on Jan. 29, 2025.

- Venue: This was a case before the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

- Amount: The court made no costs award.
