Mr. John Mantei, a 50-year-old fire captain, encountered a vehicle accident on his way home from work. His vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle traveling at full speed. The defendant accepted responsibility for the incident. The court was tasked with determining Mr. Mantei's injuries and evaluating the resulting damages. The court awarded the plaintiff: a) $175,000 for non-pecuniary damages; b) $1,020,000 for loss of earning capacity; c) $280,000 for future care costs; and d) $49,599.45 for special damages. The plaintiff was entitled to court order interest. If either party sought different costs, they were required to submit their request within 30 days. A hearing could be scheduled if necessary. The calculation of loss of earning capacity was based on Ms. Clark's calculations, with potential clarification allowed for identified errors or omissions.
