Charles Huband has been associated with the legal profession for over 60 years. He was called to the bar in Manitoba in 1956, and practiced in Winnipeg until his appointment to the Manitoba Court of Appeal in 1979. Following mandatory retirement from the bench in 2007, he returned to the practice of law. He acted for Sidney Green in a case against the Manitoba Law Society which was decided by the Supreme Court of Canada against Mr. Green (with two dissentions) in 2017.
The case of Sidney Green against the Law Society of Manitoba made its way through the legal system all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada. The issue was whether Green could be suspended from the practice of law on the grounds that he had violated the law society’s rules by not fulfilling the requirements to attend available lectures as part of the society's continuing professional development program.
