Withers KhattarWong announces Shashi Nathan and Daniel Yong as joint managing partners

Withers KhattarWong, the Singapore office of the global law firm Withersworldwide, announced the appointment of Shashi Nathan and Daniel Yong as joint managing partners, effective March 31.

Nathan and Yong succeeded Deborah Barker, who has led the firm for the past decade. This change coincides with Withers KhattarWong celebrating its 50th anniversary, which is marked by several initiatives to give back to the community.

Shashi Nathan, who currently heads the Singapore White Collar Defence and Investigations Practice, and Daniel Yong, leader of the Singapore Funds Practice, bring a wealth of experience to their new roles. With over 30 years of experience, Nathan has contributed to Singapore's white-collar and serious crime law. He regularly advises clients on issues ranging from fraud and corruption to insider trading and market manipulation.

“It is a privilege to step into this role alongside Daniel. Deborah has been an extraordinary leader, having propelled Withers KhattarWong to success over the years. Building on this strong foundation, I am committed to steering our team towards new opportunities, embracing innovation, and ensuring our clients continue to receive the best legal solutions,” Nathan said.

Daniel Yong’s expertise encompasses investment funds, cross-border private equity, and mergers and acquisitions transactions. Throughout his practice years across various international firms, Yong has managed complex fund formation and cross-border investment mandates in the region, including Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, India and China.

“Together with Shashi, I will continue to pursue strategic growth and innovation at Withers KhattarWong. Our clients and our people are important to us and we will endeavour to provide them with our best service and care,” Yong said.

Deborah Barker reflected on her tenure with gratitude, “Serving as the Managing Partner at Withers KhattarWong for over a decade has been a profound honour. It has been a journey filled with growth, challenges and triumphs."

Margaret Robertson, Global CEO of Withersworldwide, acknowledged Barker's contributions to the firm, highlighting her role in its growth and her dedication to legal excellence. Robertson also expressed confidence in Nathan and Yong’s capabilities to guide Withers KhattarWong into its next chapter.

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Withers KhattarWong is launching several initiatives, including the Withers KhattarWong Future Female Leaders Award in partnership with Singapore Management University. This initiative aims to support young women in law through mentorship and professional development opportunities. Additionally, the firm has committed to providing 1,000 hours of pro bono legal services and CSR activities in Singapore.
