Robic expands to Quebec City

Robic LLP is expanding beyond Montreal with its second office in Quebec City.

The intellectual property firm of 19 partners and 45 professionals announced the move this morning. While it’s been based in Montreal since 1892, the firm said the growth in clients in the provincial capital led it to seek a presence there. “Over time, many clients from the Quebec region have expressed their desire to obtain high-level intellectual property services closer to home,” the firm said. “With the opening of our new Quebec City office, we can now be closer to our clients and therefore more responsive to their needs.”

François Painchaud, a partner and member of Robic’s management committee, noted the growing business opportunities in Quebec City for intellectual property work. “We are confident that our increased presence in Quebec City will be appreciated by both our new clients as well as the clients we currently serve in the region. The greater Quebec City area, including Chaudière-Appalaches, is ripe with businesses and institutions that value and promote innovation. That is why Robic chose to establish an office in that area.”

The firm will provide the same services in Quebec City that it already offers in Montreal related to patents, trademarks, copyright, litigation, and business law. “Our primary objective has always been to provide intellectual property and business law services of the highest quality, and this will remain our mission going forward, be it from our Montreal or Quebec offices,” Painchaud said.

According to Painchaud, the office will open with three lawyers to start with. The goal, he notes, is to have six lawyers there within the next 12 to 18 months. The idea, he adds, is to be closer to clients such as those in the vibrant industrial sector of the Beauce region. As well, the fibre-optic sector in Quebec City is another key area of business for Robic. “It’s our first expansion in a long time in terms of other places of business,” Painchaud tells Legal Feeds.
